The World Amateur Billiards Championship had rather a quiet night at the Great Eastern hotel on Wednesday, When Australian holder , bob Marshall accounted for A.Yunoos (Burma), the score being 2,585 to 748 at the end of four hours.
It was plain sailing all the way for Marshall, and it was obvious that he did not take full advantage of all the positions he had without calling on all his resources, the World’s superb spot –end player once again reveled in this section of the table, specializing in both departments, Postman’s Knock, the while jammed against the top rail, and the other pattern with the white floating below the red.

Despite being a little restrained. Marshall still treated the crowd to really fast scoring. He seemed seven century breaks and two double century breaks his highest for the night being 283 in his 30th visits.
Here he could have gone on indefinitely. At 196 he brought off a very “fine†cannon and went well little the 200 mark. The break came to an end when he tried a steep totcing “loser†off the red which dipped in but finally settled over the pocket.
Apart from all this he scored 500 in 1 hour, 1,000 in 11/2 hours 1,500 in 21/2 hours, 2,000 in 31/2 hours, and 2500 in 3 hours 55 minutes. His total for four hours is the highest so far for the present series. So is his match average of 43.08
Marshall’s average for the first session (2hours) was 38.02 and in the second, 49.61. The combined aggregate of both players’ scores is also the highest for the present series.

The champion’s rate of scoring was the slowest in the first hour ,in which his highest break was 102. In the second he strung together in his 110, 118 and 283 but it was in the third and fourth hour tha he really turned on the heat.
In 12 visits during the third hour he produced 551 points to average 45.9. He pushed this up to 63 in the last hour when he scored 742 in 14 visits.
Other breaks of 50 and above by Marshall were: 53, 55, 56, 89, 53, 56, 86, 87, 87 and 50. Yunoos’ best breaks were: 53, 43, 44, 79, 39 and 37. the champion was 45 in play when time was called.
