Jones is India’s champion and Hirjee is India’s second string , who by virtue of this victory avenged his previous defeat sustained in the last India’s National Championship . Jones after trailing by over 200 points fought back determinately to reduce Hirjee’s points to 77 at the close of the first session . But Hirjee again played brilliantly in the second session and won the match .
Hirjee commenced the first session with breaks of 87 , 51 , 32 , 80 and 207 in his first visits to the table . This helped him to have a lead of 507 to 244 points at the end of an hour’s play .
Unfortunately for Hirjee he could not keep this up and became very erratic with his shots . His only other high break was 91 . After this he struck a bad patch scoring very little which can be judged from that in 21 visits to the table his highest break was 46 .
Jone’s gave another mysterious display . He started poorly failing to impress and a the same time big breaks was foreign to him . Suddenly his found his touch and with breaks of 53 , 89 , 81 and 52 and several in their forties to reduce Hirjee’s margin of lead . At the close of this session Hirjee led by 802 points to 725 . In the second session Hirjee made a double century break in his 13th visit . He scored 206 playing at the top for 13 minutes .
The best breaks of Hirjee in the second session were :- 88 , 90 , 84 , 51 , 97 , 83 , 57 and 206 . Jone’s best breaks were :- 60 , 58 and 117 .
Today (Wednesday) R. Marshall the champion will meet L. Driffield , who is now unbeaten far in the championship .
