Leslie Driffield Billiard’s Champion Oulman maintained his unbeaten record in the world Amateur Billiards Championship now in progress at the Great eastern Hotel by defeating India’s no.1 –Wilson Jones by 1837 points to 700 on Saturday.
All the six contestants in the championships have so far played three matches each and whereas the five of them have steady tested defeat Driffield is the only player who is still unbeaten.
The English champion was at the peak of his form specially in the first season playing cold match winning Billiards. He monopolished the table with his slow and calculated display. To his credit were three double century breaks.
Jones was upset at the stunning consistency of his opponent and he made only one century break in the second session. In the first session Driffield lead by 1018 points to 191.
Driffield’s standard of play was high and his strategy of taking his time when at the table , paid rich dividends . On his third visit to the table he knocked up 105 which was a forerunner of his bigger breaks to come . After fifty minutes play Driffield commanded a big lead of 377 to 35 points . In ten visits to the table the best Jones could do was a break of 13 . Driffield then scored two consecutive century breaks of 221 and 107 , the former taking him 19 minutes to compile . Driffield’s big breaks in the first session were 221 , 105 , 220 , 107 , 53 , 59 and 66 .
Jones slightly improved in the second session and was able to score 509 points . Driffield made his third double century break –220 in 17th minutes . In this session Driffield’s big breaks were 143 , 220 , 122 and 92 and Jones’ were 74 and 110 .
