The Statesman, Kolkata, India, Hirjee Wins Title

hirjee Wins Title
By our billiards correspondent the inimitable c . Hirjee was in sweeping form , when even with a handicap of 115 . he got the better of M . Karamally ( 20) by 723 points to 149 in the final of the J. N. Roy memorial break handicap billiards tournament final at the great eastern hotel on Sunday evening .

This is Hirjee's first title win in this tournament since its inception in 1946 .
The breaks which contributed to his victory were 206 , 144 , 210 and 163 as against Karamally s 30 , 24 , 40 , and 55 .

Karamally , the reigning state snooker champion , however failed to produce his usual form and often broke down in sight of 20 breaks . Hirjee on the other hand , not being in competitive billiards for 4 years , was found wanting in concentration . in this match , Hirjee averaged over 350 points an hour and it s a pity such a great potential scoring machine , now only 40 years , should have been out of action from competitive games all these year.
